Close to Highbury Corner you might find Canonbury locals:
- The Canonbury artist Gary Power is often to be seen painting outside. You can also be inspired by his local street scenes in the exhibition at the Canonbury Tavern. It’s not far from where Ursula Arens works on nutrition advice – One Blue Dot is all about environmental eating.
- Go shopping at Shriji News run by the Amin family.
- Need help? Then find out more about Canonbury Mutual Aid from volunteer Amy Daniels or get support from other Good Neighbours including Talia Hussain and Nicky Ludgate
- Find out more about George Orwell on a walk with historian Andy Gardner. There’s also a parody chat with George Orwell (who was of course long dead before this website was set up) which you can read here.
- The Hen & Chickens is the base for Unrestricted View film festival director James Wren (well matched to this pub by name too!)
- Enjoy the amazing Italian futurist art at the Estorick Collection, and Estorick Director Roberta Cremonici. There’s a good cafe here too.
- Find out more about the work of community activist and author Rosemary Brown.
A walk along the New River Walk is a place to spot moorhens, ducks, terrains, carp and very occasionally a heron. According to the Canonbury Society “a pair of sparrow hawks nested near the Canonbury Road end of the New River Walk and produced two chicks in April 2019, which fledged successfully in August.” Find out more about this group at www.canonburysociety.org.ukÂ
